“I need you to know something…you’re worth a lot.”
Life tells us that you’re not in love unless you can’t live without the other person. Every speech in the movies where the guy runs to the girl and says he doesn’t know who he is apart from her, every song that says the one person was never really alive until they saw the other, all those stupid jewelry commercials that play on our idea that there is only one person for all of us and you’ll never be complete until you find them. Even ancient Greek mythology says that humans were originally created with four arms, four legs, and a face with two heads but Zeus was threatened by their power so he split them in two, forcing them to wander the earth searching for the other half of themselves. Life tells us that you will never be truly happy until you’ve found that other half.
But here’s the thing. I looked it up, and there are almost seven billion people in the world. Do you really think that there is only ONE person meant for all of us? No. You see, I bet there are 100 people in California alone that I could fall in love with and spend my life with. And then what if I went to a different state? Then there’s another 100 people. And what if I went to another country? Another 7364683 people I could be happy with. So I think I don’t believe anymore in fate or destiny or “the one.” I think it’s something sweet that we’ve created to make us feel like even if everything else is shit, we’ll always have a purpose…to find our soulmate.
But I am full of good things and purpose and hope. I am enough. I always have been.
